Revelation 7:13-17

THE LAMB WILL BE THEIR SHEPHERD

For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters. Revelation 7:17, NIV The passage read today is futuristic; it speaks of what would be the experiences of the triumphant church. It presents the picture of the redeemed at the close of age. However, it is also applicable to us today. The Bible says the lamb shall feed them! This was what David meant when he said: “The Lord is my Shepherd…” (Psalm 23:1). Indeed, the Lord is the Shepherd of His people. He is the provider and the sustainer of all believers, no matter the odds of this life.

Beloved, are you His sheep? If God must be your Shepherd, you also must be ready to be His sheep. If you allow Him to shepherd you, He will feed you, water you, and wipe all your tears away. In other words, you shall not lack anything good in life and all appearances of sorrow, trouble, grief and depression shall be far from you. Give Him a chance and all these shall be your experiences in this life and the life to come.

• Birthday Blessing: “… He will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your rightful place.” Job 8:6

Mark 10:46-52

FOLLOWING THE SON OF DAVID

…Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. Mark 10:52, NIV

Jesus was heading for Jerusalem where he would be crucified and had to pass through Jericho, where He encountered Bartimaeus, a blind man.

Bartimaeus was a hopeless beggar until he met the Messiah. He was wise to cry for mercy, against all odds, that he may receive his sight and he got the miracle. Having received his sight, “he… followed Jesus along the road” (v. 52).

It is also the desire of God that we would continue to follow Jesus after receiving answers to our prayers.
Here are some lessons from today’s text:

1. Accept Jesus as your Saviour and Lord, and believe that His ability will bring your long-expected miracles.

2. Do not allow the crowd or circumstance around you to bar you from reaching Jesus. 3. Jesus will not ignore anyone who calls on Him. 4. Be specific about your requests – physical, spiritual, financial, and so on. Jesus will meet them all. 5. Continue in Him, even as Bartimaeus did.

• Birthday Blessing: “Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1

Matthew 22:41-46

WHOSE SON IS THE MESSIAH?

What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he...? Matthew 22:42, NIV

When Jesus had a dialogue with the offensive Pharisees who were mistaken about His personality, He asked them a question: “whose son is the messiah?” But they were completely confounded by this as they answered that He was the “Son of David.” The point is: Jesus knew His purpose on earth. So, He was never confused.

Have you discovered your purpose for living? This is one way you cannot be confused in life. Besides, if you must shut out the enemies of your progress, you need wisdom based on the Word of God to answer them.

Discovering your purpose will help you overcome all your challenges in life, career and ministry.

Do not allow any human being to confuse you. For Jesus, “no one dared question him anymore” (v. 46). Why? By wisdom, He silenced all His accusers. The wisdom of God, His anointing, and the knowledge of the Scriptures will help you silence your enemies too.
• Birthday Blessing: “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace [be] unto you: as [my] Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” John 20:21

Matthew 21:12-17

HOSANNA TO THE SON OF DAVID

... the children shouting in the temple area, "Hosanna to the Son of David" Matthew 21:15, NIV

When Jesus entered the temple in Jerusalem, it was to fulfil a prophecy (Malachi 3:1-3) and to set in perspective the principle underlining God's Kingdom. So, Jesus demonstrated His messianic authority by purging the temple, sending the money changers, merchants and other unauthorized people out of the temple. He
said: "It is written, my house shall be called a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves" (v. 13). His purpose is to right every wrong.

The truth is, what happened in the temple in the days of Jesus is happening in the church today. Therefore, if our generation must shout hosanna to Jesus, wrong practices must stop. You must not join those who do wrong in the house of God because whether we like it or not, Christ will cleanse Hid Temple. Just as the kids cannot be stopped from praising God, so you cannot. Do not allow anything or anybody to prevent you from singing the praise of your heavenly Father.

. Birthday Blessing: And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Romans 4:21

Proverbs 28:18-22

SHOWING PARTIALITY IS NOT GOOD

To show partiality is not good - yet a man will do wrong for a price of bread. Proverbs 28:21, NIV

Partiality simply means unfair or biased support of one person or thing against another for benefit. For personal interest and gain, people usually deny others their rightful entitlements, thereby making themselves richer, while others become poorer.

Can you imagine an establishment where the principal officers collect huge portions of Christmas bonus, and still cut from the little that belong to the junior staff and add it to theirs?

Some people deny the most qualified people admission or appointment and give it to those who are not qualified because of money or personal interest. In fact, partiality has destroyed our nation’s main sectors: economy, education, judiciary, political, etc.

Today, God is speaking to you that partiality is bad, no matter who does it and for whatever reason. It is wrong and you must desist from it. We must avoid its attendant consequences which are:

(1) One who is partial will fall (Proverbs 28:18). That is, he will never shine because he is down (Isaiah 60:1).

(2) The man who is partial will suffer abject poverty (vs. 19-22). He may suddenly amass wealth for himself, but it will not last.

(3) He will be punished by God (v. 20).

• Birthday Blessing: The Lord will give strength unto His people…bless His people with peace. Psalm 29:11

Psalm 82

GIVING JUSTICE TO THE WEAK
“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless….”  Psalm 82:3, NIV

Today’s devotion is a continuation of what God started ministering to us yesterday. The message is a consolation for the oppressed, the weak and the helpless. It is quite amazing that God pays serious attention to these categories of people.

Are you currently being oppressed by someone you cannot possibly handle by yourself? Be encouraged by God’s Word today. He will intervene in your situation. Maybe the oppressor is even someone close: your spouse, children, parents, bosses, pastors, leaders, or even the government. Whoever it is is surely currying God’s wrath. So, relax; God is already fighting for you.

On the other hand, you need to examine yourself. Hope you are not also an oppressor to some seemingly helpless people. Hope you are not usurping authority? If you are guilty of any of these, you will need to repent today lest God rises against you as He did to Pharaoh. Some people treat their mates, spouses, children or wards as slaves or even animals. Heed God’s warning now and repent before it is too late!

Defend the cause of the weak and helpless. Strengthen them. Then, you too can be sure of God’s help.

• Birthday Blessing: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. Isaiah 44:2
