1 Corinthians 15: 12-20

CHRIST HAS BEEN RAISED

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:20, NIV

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the centre of our Christian faith. Christianity will be a charade if He has not risen. It was as He died and was buried that believers are also dead to sins; but as He rose from the dead, a new life also burst forth when believers give their lives to Christ. And the evidences of His resurrection are there clearly for all to see. It is only those who are blind and doomed in their sins that will not agree that He rose from the dead.

Friend, our hope in Christ is beyond this life. If He was raised from the dead, we shall also rise in the latter day into His glorious rest. No matter what you face now, He who raised Jesus from the dead shall also "quicken your mortal body".

Like Job, let your confession be "Still, I know that God lives – the One who gives me back my life..." Job 19: 25 (MSG).

Psalm 73:16-28

RECEIVED BY GOD WITH HONOUR

You guide me with Your counsel, and afterwards You will take me into glory. Psalm 73:24, NIV

Two strong themes are presented in today's text.
(1) The wicked prosper, leaving faithful people wondering why they bother to be good and
(2) The faithful appear to have been unfortunate because they choose to live faithfully.

Apparently, in our daily experiences, we are always bothered by these issues. But, the Psalmist presents us with a yardstick to measure these conflicting issues. The yardstick is the end. The end will justify the means! The 'final destiny' of the wicked is destruction but for the faithful, God is their 'final destiny'.

The lesson today is that you should never be carried away by the seeming 'prosperity' of the wicked. Rather, let your heart be at peace that you are doing the will of God. Let God guide you in all you do. He knows the right way to a glorious destiny. Do not be deceived to put your hope in momentary material things. Every time you are getting carried away by the progress of the wicked, run into God's presence as the Psalmist did. The glory of God will be your latter end.

Psalm 49:5-15

RANSOMED FROM THE POWER OF DEATH

But God will redeem my life from the grave; He will surely take me to Himself. Psalm 49: 15, NIV

This Psalm underscores the inevitability of death for every human being. Our greatest challenge as humans is that "no man can redeem the life of another or give God a ransom for him - the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough .... (vv. 7-9)." Knowing this, God expects us to live and labour with eternity in view.

Beloved, it is foolishness to live your life for the things of this world because you will surely leave them behind. It will be wise of you to locate your life in God. He alone has the power to redeem souls; this He has done through Christ Jesus. The Psalmist had a relationship with God and so he could boast about life in eternity. Do you have any relationship with God? This is a good time to check on your investment and see where you have invested the most. Where is the thrust of your life, eternity or this perishable earth? Death can take anyone at any time. Strive now not to lose your soul at the end.

Hebrews 7:11-19

A BETTER HOPE

For the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. Hebrews 7:19, NKJV

The New Covenant was obtained for us through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This covenant provides divine ability to overcome sins, to deny and crucify self daily and to obey God in all righteousness (John 14:23; 1 John 3:24).

This better hope is achievable because it is not about what a man can do, but what Christ has done. The law was about the ability of man to please God, while grace (the better hope) is about the ability of Christ in man to please God.
Thus, the better hope is the ability of Christ in man to live above sin and the flesh.

The truth is, the Mosaic Laws were imperfect and impotent to help those guided by them to overcome sin. That was why God decided to bring grace through Christ.

To enjoy a better hope of the New Covenant in Jesus, all you need to do is to receive Christ into your life. This better hope is your ticket to a better life.

Isaiah 56:6-7

A HOUSE OF PRAYER
…For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations. Isaiah 56:7, NKJV

God’s desire is that His house will be a house of prayer for all nations. Consequently, He highlights things that can make people of diverse nations become partakers in His house with manifold benefits. By His standard, they are to reconcile with Him through Jesus Christ.

They must love and obey Him totally as His servants, observe the Sabbath with no defilement, and hold fast to His covenant of love relationship. Then will they be accepted with joy and gladness.

Confirming this truth about the house of God, Jesus had to drive fake worshippers out of the temple (Mark 11:15-19). He did it with zeal because He would not want the true worshippers in the temple to be disturbed. The onus is on you too to make your life, home, and church God’s house of
prayer. Therefore, cleanse your life through the power of the Holy Spirit.

In addition, note that your local church is God’s house. Therefore, it is not a place to read novel, newspaper or play game on your phones. God is not happy with people who do such in the church.

Jonah 2:1-9

MY PRAYER CAME TO YOU
When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee…Jonah 2:7, KJV

Jonah was (and is still) a good evidence of God’s generosity to deliver from troubles.

In today’s text, Jonah gave the testimony of God’s deliverance. Narrating his ordeals, Jonah described his level of distress as being in the heart of sea and grave of death. This means seaweed, waves, breakers, deep water and threat of death engulfed him. It was a state of total hopelessness. No physical hand could reach him where he was. No man would even dare it.

Somehow, Jonah managed to offer prayer to God. He noted that his “prayer came to God.” Note the word ‘came’ as if prayer was a person. The truth is, prayer has ‘wings’ and it can fly to meet God for your needs to be met.

Every time you are faced with difficulties, always remember God. God’s line is never too busy to get your prayer through to Him; neither will it ever be out of reach, for there is no network failure with Him. Always bear this in mind: there is no hopeless situation with God. Therefore, if you dare to pray, your situation will change for good.
